Breathing and voice work

Conducted by Geórgia Dias

Breathing is the whole of you.
By learning how to respect one's own breathing system the natural rate of breath will be restored.
The Alexander technique gives you the tools to respect your natural breath cycle and you'll learn how to apply it into rhythm in singing and speach.

Voice work in the AT:
Working with the voice makes it necessary that you know what you are doing with your own speech/singing instrument, which starts by the sole of your feet and goes all the way up to the crown of your head. Tuning up your instrument will give you freedom of breath and movements, and you'll learn how to direct your energy towards a good use of your voice and your audience.

AT Essential: Physics, Senses and Living

Conducted by Eduardo Tilve

The principles of the Alexander Technique seen from a new perspective.

In a practical way, we will explore the relationship between the laws of the physics, our senses and the use we make of ourselves.

That being said, it seems I have yet some spare room to quote Alexander, so:

You can't do something you don't know if you keep on doing what you do know.
The things that don't exist are the most difficult to get rid of.

WORKING WITH PERFORMING ARTISTS

Conducted by Merran Poplar

One of my great joys is working with the Alexander Technique in performance.  It was after all the stimulus of performing, and his passion for it, that first led Alexander to make the discoveries that he did.

My own background is in music, and so I often find myself working with musicians and exploring how they are using themselves in meeting the specific demands of playing their particular instrument, but also more generally in response to the stimulus of performance.  Here we are entering areas that are core to our humanness - communication, connection, expression.  I look forward to exploring this rich area - with music, poetry or movement, whatever people would like to play with.

Open to everyone: professionals, amateurs and the curious.

Exploring use in movement

Conducted by Ana Thomaz

Inhibition and direction are two principles of the Alexander Technique that bring us back to a condition of coordination and balance, and re-connect us with our power.

We'll do games on the balance board, in which the body is sustained by the force of gravity and it's own internal support, reaching a state of poise.
